What U.S. city has the most breweries per capita of any in the country?

It is the most populous city in its state, but it is NOT the state capital.

Portland, OR (Milwaukee, WI a great guess but ranks outside top 3)

  1. Oregon cities seem to keep stealing this title from each other every couple months with new breweries popping up all the time, but as of early September, Hood River, OR with just 7,214 people and 5 breweries seems to hold the world record http://oregoncraftbeer.org/facts/, though a few months earlier I thought it was Bend, OR with 16 breweries and just under 78,000 people; I’m sure this will all change again soon, but the competitive spirit sure brews some tasty beers!

  2. According to Brewers Association (2012) Vermont has 23 breweries for 25,030. Oregon has 140 breweries for 27,365. Those breweries are in Portland, Eugene, Hood River….and Bend. Bend is small. Breweries are abundant. Bend wins. I guess that’s the luxury of being small.
